Artist Statement
Adiah Bonham (byadiah) creates intentionally messy, layered artworks that reclaim time often dismissed as "unproductive." Through language—especially words like "gooey" and "goop," which carry contradictory meanings—her work employs esoteric semblance to explore cognitive dissonance and challenge binary thinking. Her ongoing series WORKS FOR LIVING IN A…MERICA critiques American cultural values by destabilizing familiar objects and traditions. The companion series WORKS FOR LIVING IN A…BODY shifts energy and focus inward, exploring emotional and metaphysical experiences through densely layered, interrupted brushstrokes, safely cradled in a tumor-like container.
